The 'Wh' Questions

 What is The Thrifty Sipper?

This blog is a guide for your wine consumption needs. Every week a review of two wines will be made, which you can find on sale for that month at BC Liquor Stores. Through years of strategy, I've found that the sweet spot for top-value wines comes in at around $15-20, so that will be the emphasis of this practice. The last week of every month will feature a SPEC edition, highlighting wines that aren't necessarily on sale, but that one cannot find in BC Liquor Stores -- only in private liquor stores in BC. I will share where I found these wines, but apart from that specific store, hunting them down will be your fun, exciting responsibility.

Why does The Thrifty Sipper exist?

Wine is a community. By making wine easier on the pocket book, it is then more approachable for many more people, and our community can grow. Like every other subject, understanding wine requires practice, and that practice can sometimes get expensive. That's why I am here. This blog is designed to not only advise you on your next purchase, help you with food pairings, and give you a reasonably in-depth analysis of each wine, but it is also made so that the next time you order wine in a restaurant or are looking for something to fit your palate in a wine shop, the intimidation factor will be lowered. After all, wine is fun, and nobody should pair it with arrogance.

Who is The Thrifty Sipper?

My name is Liam Kidner and I have worked in the wine industry for over 20 years. I have traveled the world not only making wine, but also tasting it; and in some extreme circumstances where I find myself in a place that doesn't make wine, I partake in any local customs and traditions that are created around libations of any sort.
